67 Minutes, and Then Some: How Daisy Teams Spent Mandela Day 2026
Nelson Mandela spent 67 years in public service. Each year, Mandela Day asks for just one of them back, in minutes, spread across a single afternoon. Sixty-seven minutes to paint a wall, pack a care hamper, spend time with someone lonely, or clean up a space that can uplift a community.
At Daisy Business Solutions, we've never treated 67 minutes as the limit to what we can give. Some of our teams gave 67 minutes this year. Others gave half a day. Some gave the whole day. What stayed consistent, across every province and every branch, was the willingness to show up.
What Mandela Day Actually Asks of Us
A day like this asks us to reflect on the historical significance of a time when an entire country had to reimagine itself, and one man's 27 years in prison became the foundation for that change. But Mandela's own idea behind Mandela Day was more direct: everyone has the power to change someone's world; it takes an act of kindness, consideration, and the willingness to do something that matters.
That's the version of Mandela Day we have tried to build into who we are as a company for 40+ years now. Community first isn't merely a campaign line for us. It's a fundamental belief that giving back shapes our company, our culture, and the people behind it.
Where Our Teams Showed Up in 2026
We don't get to see every team in action. Daisy operates across too many branches for that. But the messages that came through from around the country told their own story.
From Port Elizabeth to Limpopo, George to Pretoria, KZN to Daisy Net, teams across the country found their own way to give back. Some of our people spent the day with children by visiting a children's hospice, painting play areas, dropping off toys, toiletries and educational supplies, and simply spending time with kids at a place they call home.
Other teams turned their attention to schools, breathing new life into classrooms and playgrounds with hopscotch, roads, and murals painted onto bare floors ahead of the new term. These efforts will make such a big difference to the school days ahead!
Elsewhere, our teams sat with the elderly, trading a normal workday for company and conversation with residents who don't always get the time that they deserve. Animals got their share of attention too, with pet food, blankets, and afternoons spent at shelters and rescue organisations across several provinces.
And in between it all, toiletry bags made their way to shelters supporting women, men, children, and families in need. 65 here, 65 there, alongside 160 blankets shared between a handful of welfare organisations.
Why We Keep Doing This
As Daisy has grown, so has our capacity to give back. Our growth shows up in the size and reach of Daisy Cares. We feel incredibly fortunate to be in a position that allows us to make a difference when it matters the most.
Right now, that means three things we're actively working toward: deepening the community partnerships we already have, strengthening our support for education, and working towards an impact that lasts well beyond a single Friday in July.
Mandela Day gives all of this a name and a date on the calendar. But if there's one thing this year's messages from our teams reminded us of, it's that the spirit behind it doesn't need a public holiday to show up. It just needs people willing to give their time.
To every Daisy team member who painted, packed, cleaned, sorted, or simply sat with someone today, we thank you.
